Summer GeekBeers in Cambridge.
We're starting a bit later than normal, at 6:30pm now .. so that the guys who work out of town can make it in. (Hopefully Mr Harrison can now grace us with his presents... he he!
Relaxing end to another hard week with good Beer, laptops, friends, and coffee , 6:30 till whenever ... Every Friday at CB2 Bistro. (check the website each week to confirm the venue, will be exploring some other venues soon.)
This week, CB2 Bistro ( Upstairs from 6:30pm hands on with laptops, coffee and food) If you come a bit earlier I will most likely be outside. We'll be discussing fun free Hack-ish API's that we can add to websites and mash-ups. Will be playing with some free web based IDE's as well as continuing part #2 of learning F#.
For anyone wishing to learn F#, please get a copy of the OReilly book "Programming F#", there's 4 of us who are all starting from scratch and we'll meeting up each week. by Friday we've committed to completing up to end of Chapter 2, and Friday night will be Q&A and some pair programming to re-inforce what we've learnt.
So if you're keen on learning a new language, and missed our first session, then all u need 2 do, is get a copy of the book and complete up 2 end of chapter 2, Ebru says it's only about 2 to 3 hours, then you'll be at the same point as the rest of us.
So far, we're of the general opinion that F# is the greatest thing since slice bread for writing routines to process massively parallel task type work-items, e.g. Cloud stuff. Some ongoing discussion on what we can build as a group to post up as an open source project as part of our learning.
Beer is sponsored by www.snowcode.co.uk
( snow + developers + party = snowcode )
cheers all,
Alan
