Join a bunch of passionate lunatic coders at the Tram Depot on Saturday morning for some hacking, coding, beer, coffee... laptops and friends.
I'm going to be there from 11am onwards, regardless of whether anyone else arrives or not as I'm promised myself to take a deep dark look at Amazon services and will be hacking together a mashup of using Yahoo Query Language to query Flicker for photos about "my friends" latest tweets, and will be storing the result on Amazon's SimpleDB storage.
NB : Please bring with mobile 3G dongles for internet access, and/or all code "bits" [large downloads/installs] so that you can work offline if needed when we're at the pub, (I will have internet access at the pub for us using a private 3g + wifi, but that will only be enough bandwidth for us to twitter and check email) We'll be online with highspeed at the Goblinfactory digs later in the afternoon, after lunch.
having recently looked at CouchDB at Snowcode (www.meetup.com/snowcode) I'm very keen to see how Amazon do their storage.
I'm a complete novice to Amazon S3, and will literally be cutting and pasting sample code from google'd sources together with code from a O-Reilly's "Programming Amazon Web Services" kindly lent to me by Warwick Bailey from Icodeon.
bring your laptop and share the latest API and cloud or webservice that you want to hack with and we'll do some pair programming, spending time on each person's interests.
RSVP now for 2 free beers at the pub on Saturday.
If the weather is as wonderful as it was today and you want to leave your laptop behind then feel free to come along just for the two free beers.
Beers for this event are sponsored by SNOWCODE. (i.e. me) You must RSVP before the prev Friday 5pm in order to qualify for the 2 free beers.
The first 12 RSVPs will get their pub lunch paid for! (up to £12)
cheers,
Alan
[edited: 14/4/10 - just realised I forgot to emphasize, this isnt a day about Amazon S3, that's just what I'm interested in, if you want to play with Rake.net or anything else, then please come along. I've been doing some prep on Amazon S3 and it's a little boring for a day hack so will probably pick something else when we all get together. ]

You don't need to have a laptop to come along, there will be plenty going on, beer, chat, lunch... plus, you can pair program with someone else.
;-p
